Filiz Tunali

Born in Toronto, Canada Filiz moved to England with her family and began to push her creative studies seriously at school, intrigued by the delicate paintings of Giuseppe Arcimboldo and Escher. She gained a First Class Honours Degree from Falmouth University where she studied Illustration under the guidance of Professor of Illustration, Alan Male.

Drawing a lot of her inspiration from children’s classics, Narrative plays a strong part in building each piece. Inside each artwork there are textures, patterns and tones, which communicate mood and character of the story Illustrated.

Filiz constructs her own patterns from collages and paintings and her limited edition prints are produced as a Giclee print on Harman 300gsm matt cotton textured paper and printed with archival inks.

“My work is very surrealist in a way. I like juxtapositions of colour, texture, shape and in all my work my main aim is to unify these elements together in order to convey a narrative"
